SPF in the Winter

Ok so we know that it isn’t exactly winter anymore, but the cold weather is still very much prevalent – in New York City anyway – so it is important that we all remember that sun protection requires just as much attention now as we give it in the summer. Our faces are still exposed to the elements after all.

Choosing a good SPF has never been more important, especially with New York Fashion Week in full swing and most of the fashion world running around in a frantic, chaotic array of excitement. It might seem like there are more important things to be thinking about than SPF but believe me there aren’t. Therefore, Boon Models (one of the top up-and-coming NYC modeling agencies of the moment) have put together a list of quick and easy suggestions for you to make sure your skin is getting the protection it really needs form the sun’s powerful rays.

Day Cream

Averagely containing an SPF rating of at least 15 (along with +5 UVA), day cream is a great way to start your day safe in the knowledge that your skin will be protected. You should make sure that this miracle cream is the first thing you reach for after you’ve cleansed your face in the morning.

Tinted Moisturizer

Not only do tinted moisturizers contain significant amounts of SPF (which you must always check for on the packaging) but they also act as a great base for the rest of your make-up. They also add valued moisture to your skin that you will find yourself losing in the cold weather.

It is a well-known fact that make-up is now starting to contain more and more SPF, which is music to our ears considering we can combine two basic essentials. It is particularly prominent in products such as BB Cream, CC Cream, Foundation and concealer, so you can be rest assured that you have all bases covered. Furthermore, even though it doesn’t contain a specific SPF, pressed powder is a great way to further prevent the sun’s rays creeping through to your skin so be sure to add at least one layer if possible for a clean matte finish.

Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you smear this all over your face but in the cold weather you need to give your lips some necessary care and attention. Chap sticks have pretty much all gotten to the stage where they contain SPF now so maybe if you happen to come across one that doesn’t, then consider a different choice. Painful, cracked lips are really the last thing you need to worry about!

Yeah, yeah, we know this is glaringly obvious. But if you don’t have any of the above products to hand before you head out in the morning, don’t be afraid to reach for the sunscreen and smear a good layer all over your face. You will thank us in twenty years when you’re looking younger than ever.
