How to Style Flats: Part 1 – The Biker Boot

With the ever-present risk of icy sidewalks still upon us in the lead up to New York Fashion Week it is easy to yearn for the safety of our UGG boots or indeed our snow-proof Moonboots. However practical these are, fashion-forward, sadly they are not. But don’t despair just yet, as we have a few options at our disposal to save us keeling over running between castings and catwalk shows, the first of which is the flat buckled biker boot. This miraculous item of footwear is going to be your saviour throughout NY Fashion Week and here at Boon Models (one of the top up-and-coming modeling agencies in DC, Tampa and New York) we will definitely be moulding them into our everyday wardrobes (maybe saving an emergency pair of high heels in our bags for particularly exclusive parties).

The biker boot itself has engrained itself into popular fashion culture in recent years with many people investing in a good quality pair, which can be matched with many items that we all have in our wardrobes. It is highly recommended that you invest in a good quality leather pair – incorporating the trademark buckles – which will add a flare of elegance to your chosen outfit and will be sure to last for many years.

Here are just a few tips to get you started with your styling of the legendary ‘biker boots’ but once you get the hang of it you’ll be the ones educating us in no time…

1. Biker Boots and… Skinny Jeans

In previous years the styles of jeans that most of us wore wasn’t suitable for the ankle-hugging effect of the biker boot. However, thanks to the takeover of the skinny jean you can rely on the fact that these two are a match made in heaven. You don’t need to be afraid about the color of your skinny jeans either, provided that your chosen boots are black they will always match.

2. Biker Boots and… Tailored Pants / Trousers

This is one you have to be slightly more careful with but the results can look amazing and absolutely on-point for Fashion Week. Therefore, you should be careful to choose a pair of boots with a slightly lower rise ankle and make sure that your pants are not tucked in at all.

3. Biker Boots and… a Skirt or Dress paired with Black Pantyhose

This look also emerged a few years ago but has remained ever so stylish for winter fashion. Biker boots are so versatile that you can even match them with a midi or long skirt/dress but be aware that you will be styling down the intensity, making the outfit less formal.

4. Biker Boots and… You Choice of Sweater

The perfect winter combination if ever there was one and it doesn’t matter if you choose to match this with a skirt or jeans – both will work. If you want to take this to the next level then turtle neck sweaters and chunky knits are particularly in fashion for 2015.

5. Biker Boots and… A Leather Jacket

Why not add some symmetry to your outfit? It is no surprise that matching leather is gaining more and more credibility considering that double denim is also making a comeback. Just make sure that your leather jacket is black to match your boots otherwise things could get a bit ‘loud’.
